Alltel Partners with Check to Support Mobile Bill Payments

Check has partnered with Alltel Wireless, allowing Alltel customers to track and pay bills on their smartphones with Check's Money & Bills app.

Users of the Check app can track all transactions and bills, access monthly bill statements in PDF form, receive real-time bill alerts and schedule payments.

"Prior to Check, people would suffer through the headache of navigating dozens of websites to pay their bills," says Guy Goldstein, CEO of Check, in a June 4 press release. "Check simplifies everything into a single mobile app and takes the work out of paying bills."

The service is available on all smartphones offered by Alltel, a subsidiary of Atlantic Tele-Network Inc. Customers can download the free app from the Google Play Store, the iTunes App Store and the Alltel App Store.

Check rebranded in early May, changing its name from PageOnce to signal the company's new focus on payments. In late 2012, the Palo Alto, Calif.-based company updated its Money & Bills mobile app to allow users to schedule bill payments in advance. And in February, it added a person-to-person payments feature, Pay Anyone. More than 8 million consumers now use the Check app.

Personal finance management companies have traditionally excluded payments from their offerings, but some, including Check and ReadyForZero Inc., support bill payment.

"Alltel's partnership with Check demonstrates the firm's understanding of the importance of providing a superior customer experience, and the economic benefits of providing a great mobile bill pay capability."
