Android Pay Launch Imminent, According to Possible McDonald's Leak

What appears to be an internal employee notice at McDonald's may signal Android Pay's launch later this week, the blog Android Police reported over the weekend.

The notice, sent as a screenshot to the blog and posted Saturday, suggests that Android Pay will launch on Wednesday, Aug. 26, though Android Police correctly points out that the same notice lists Samsung Pay as launching August 21; Samsung has already indicated that its own wallet will enter beta testing on Aug. 25 with a full rollout planned for Sept. 28. However the blog does note that Google tends to release new apps and updates on Wednesdays.

Android Pay is Google's streamlined successor to Google Wallet and Google Checkout. The new version, which Google previewed in May, will support fingerprint authentication and in-app purchases but will be focused only on retail transactions. The old Google Wallet brand will be used for person-to-person payments.
