Asian Bank Orders 26,000 Hypercom POS Terminals

An Asian bank has started deploying the first of 26,000 Hypercom Corp. Optimum point-of-sale terminals in Indonesia, Hypercom announced Oct. 19.

Hypercom calls the order a “multimillion”-dollar purchase, but declined to be more specific. It also would not name the bank.

This is the bank’s second sizable order from Hypercom this year. The institution bought 39,000 payment terminals three months ago.

The bank will complete the terminal installation by the end of the year, a Hypercom spokesperson says.

Indonesia is in the midst of converting to EMV payment cards, according to Bank Indonesia, the nation’s central bank. Since Jan. 1, all cards issued in Indonesia must contain EMV chips, the bank says on its website.
