Bank Freedom, a subsidiary of Prepaid Card Holdings Inc., a prepaid card provider, announced Oct. 3 that it has run 33,000 commercials for its prepaid MasterCards over three weeks in September. The company, which is based in Irvine, Calif., chose to air its 60-second spots on 189 local cable-television stations to try to reach unbanked consumers, and it does not intend to try to get on major broadcast networks, the company says. Bruce Berman, Bank Freedom CEO, tells CardLine that based on the results of the ad campaign, the company would refine its message and run further ads. He declined to say how many cards were issued as a result of the campaign or how much the ads cost. He said the ads were placed with local cable companies, which decided the channels on which they would run.
