Bank Of East Asia Issues UnionPay Debit Card

Hong Kong-based Bank of East Asia has begun issuing a China UnionPay-branded debit in Hong Kong, a bank spokesperson tells CardLine Global. The bank also issues JCB-, MasterCard- and Visa-branded payment cards. The bank charges a HK$50 (US$6.45 or 4.80 euros) annual fee for the new debit card. The debit-card transactions are settled in Hong Kong dollars, the bank says. The bank operates more than 200 branches in Hong Kong, China, the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. The spokesperson declines to disclose the total number of cards the bank has issued.
