Boku Provides Mobile Billing for Swisscom

Mobile pay tech company Boku has entered a carrier billing partnership with Swisscom to provide direct-to-bill payments to more than 6 million customers, or more than 60% of Switzerland's mobile market.

The integration will allow online merchants to offer a mobile option for payments. Consumers enter their mobile phone number at checkout and receive a PIN to use to confirm the payment. The charges then appear on that consumer's next wireless bill.

The technology supports online and mobile payments, user authentication and notification of billing errors.

"[Swisscom's] direct billing [application programming interface] will allow Boku to deliver a bank-grade carrier billing experience to the vast majority of Switzerland's mobile users in one fell swoop; that's a tremendous value for Boku and for Swiss mobile subscribers," said James Patmore, senior vice president at Boku, in a release.

Mobile billing is gaining traction as a payment option. Boku competitor Payvia has recently attracted a diverse range of clients, such as Skype, OnCam and Bright. Payvia has also entered into a partnership with MACH to sell mobile pay technology in Europe.

PayPal also offers mobile billing via its acquisition of Zong.
