Bangladesh’s Brac Bank Ltd. has launched a Visa-branded debit card designed to help support a “green” fund, the Dhaka-based bank announced Oct. 26.
The so-called Planet Card is available now to the bank’s saving-account customers. For each card issued, the bank and the accountholder both will contribute 25 taka (35 U.S. cents or 25 euro cents) toward a fund that will enable and support such activities as proper waste management, free distribution of plants and funding for renewable energy sources, a spokesperson for the bank tells PaymentsSource.
Cardholders also will have access to discounts at restaurants and fashion stores, and a daily ATM cash-withdrawal limit of 100,000 taka, the bank noted in a statement.
To apply for the card, the applicant will have to be a Bangladesh citizen and open a savings account with a minimum deposit of 2,000 taka, the spokesperson says. “Existing debit cardholders can also get their cards exchanged free of cost,” she says.
Brac issues more than 500,000 Visa-branded debit and credit cards and deploys 400 ATMs across the country.
