CardFlight Unveils EMV SwipeSimple Card Readers

CardFlight has released a new reader for its SwipeSimple mobile point of sale offering to accept EMV-chip cards.

EMV-chip cards add security against counterfeiting fraud. The new readers also feature an encrypted magnetic stripe reader, so that merchants can accept cards without EMV chips. CardFlight said in a March 26 press release that it is in certification testing with multiple processors and experts in an effort to be certified with providers during the second quarter of 2015.

"By offering the EMV-ready readers today, CardFlight's partners can be confident that they are giving their merchants future-proof hardware that will last well beyond the October 2015 EMV liability shift," said Derek Webster, founder and CEO of CardFlight, in the release.

In February, CardFlight updated SwipeSimple to allow for payments even without an active data connection. CardFlight does not sell the mobile card reader directly to merchants. Instead, the reader is offered through resellers including banks, merchant service providers and independent sales organizations.
