The agreement, announced July 11, calls for Cardtronics to cobrand 189 ATMs with USAA logos, according to a joint press release. The machines are located at CVS Caremark Corp. locations in Washington, northern Virginia and southern Maryland.

USAA already had a previous agreement with Cardtronics’ Allpoint surcharge-free ATM network.

USAA, a San Antonio-based institution that serves primarily U.S. military members and their families, has some 800,000 customers in the Washington area, according to a company spokesperson. Overall, the institution has more than 8 million members.

USAA’s expanded ATM presence complements the institution’s recent efforts to establish what it calls USAA Financial Centers, the spokesperson says. The institution has one such center in Annapolis, Md., located about 28 miles west of the nation’s capital.

Members may use the center to engage in immediate, face-to-face video conferencing with USAA employees for in-depth financial discussions or for more complex services such as mortgages and life insurance. The centers also house computer stations that enable members to access their accounts online and even deposit checks using a scanner.

USAA members also have the ability to deposit checks at more than 2,000 United Parcel Service Inc. locations nationwide.
