China EverBright Bank has launched an online payment service for credit cardholders, a bank spokesperson tells CardLine Global. Cardholders who wish to take part in the service provide their card numbers and other data, and use mobile phone text messages sent by the bank to make purchases. The messages contain six-number codes that consumers type into their computers. The service enables consumers to make online payments without opening a formal Internet banking application on their computers, the spokesperson says. "Chinese credit cardholders normally have to enable the Internet banking function in advance if they want to make purchases online, but the cardholders in China EverBright bank do not have to do this anymore," the spokesperson says. While the bank reports heavy demand for this service, the spokesperson declines to provide any transaction figures. The bank has issued some 5 million credit cards. The bank issues UnionPay-, MasterCard- and Visa-branded cards.
