Bank of Shanghai has launched a cobranded China UnionPay credit card with local newspaper Shen Jiang Fu Wu Dao Bao, a bank spokesperson tells CardLine Global. The bank will market the credit card to female consumers, starting in Shanghai, the spokesperson says. The card is one of the latest in China designed to appeal to specific market segments instead of to the general population. Earlier this month, for instance, Shenzhen Ping An Bank said it was issuing a UnionPay- and MasterCard-branded credit card designed to appeal to car owners in China (CardLine Global, 8 Jan.). The Bank of Shanghai will offer cardholders many benefits, including 50% discounts on movie tickets, free newspapers and discounts at beauty parlors in Shanghai, the spokesperson says. Guangdong Development Bank, China Citic Bank and China Merchants Bank have issued cards designed for female consumers.
