Bus riders in the Delhi region of India have started to use contactless fare cards as part of a five-month test of the technology, a spokesperson for the Delhi Transport Corp. tells CardLine Global. The test, which started around 1 Dec., involves some 5,000 chip cards provided by United States-based Cubic Corp., the spokesperson says. The vendor has installed card readers on the Delhi's transit group's air-conditioned buses, the spokesperson adds. The spokesperson did not say how many buses are participating in the test, but the agency operates about 8,000 buses and plans to expand that total to 11,000 in time for the Commonwealth Games in March. Cubic also has established a subsidiary, Cubic Transportation Systems (India) Pvt. Ltd, to manage the company's operations in India.
