Eat24 Adds PayPal As A Payment Option

Online food-delivery service Eat24.com has increased the number of ways its hungry customers can pay for food from their favorite restaurants.

Eat24 added online payments provider PayPal Inc. as a payment option about a month after providing customers with a “Split the Check” payment option on its website, the San Francisco-based restaurant food delivery and pickup service announced March 1.

PayPal joins five other payment methods–cash, Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover–that customers may use when paying for food-delivery orders from restaurants using the Eat24 site, Nadav Sharon, Eat24 co-founder, tells PaymentsSource.

“Ea24 customers have specific passwords that identify them, but they can also use the site as a guest,” Sharon says. “The PayPal option will be available to regular accountholders as well as guests on the site.”

When a customer places an order, Eat24 transfers all information to the restaurant necessary for preparing the food order. On occasion, Eat24 will transfer credit card and other payment information to the restaurant when that restaurant, rather than Eat24, is handling the transaction through its processor, the company website states. Heartland Payment Systems Inc. processes payments for Eat24.

The Split the Check payment option allows large parties or groups to charge up to five credit cards for a food payment, Sharon adds.

“The payment amounts can automatically be split evenly, or they can be divided into different amounts per card as defined by the customer,” Sharon says.

Eat24, which has been in operation since 2008, is the only online food delivery service offering a Split the Check feature on its website, Sharon contends.

“Offering a multitude of convenient payment methods is just one of the key benefits our customers have when ordering with Eat24,” Sharon adds.

The service offers rewards, such as weekly cash coupons, to regular users and provides a complimentary “thank you” dish as part of its loyalty program each week.
