Walmart Japan Holdings G.K. and Japan-based card issuer Credit Saison Co. Ltd. on Oct. 1 plan to roll out the Walmart Card Saison American Express Card, the retailer announced earlier this month.
Consumers pay no annual fees for the card, which will provide a 1% daily discount at the country’s 371 stores operated by Walmart Japan’s subsidiary Seiyu G.K., including Livin and Sunny stores. On the 5th and 20th of each month, Walmart will raise the discount to 5%.
Walmart Japan expects the card to bring the retailer new customers, Tokyo-based spokesperson Miki Sawada tells PaymentsSource. “The card will help us promote our ‘Everyday Low Price’ concept in practicality, and we hope it will not only retain our existing customers but also bring us more new customers,” she says.
Cardholders also will receive free Saison permanent points when shopping at Saison and AmEx-partner stores. Saison will double points for overseas purchases, according to Saison.
