Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey has renewed its contract with CardSmith LLC to issue identification cards for students, faculty and staff, Jay P. Summerall, the company's president and founder, tells ATM&Debit News, a CardLine sister publication. The renewal agreement is for five years, says Summerall, noting CardSmith initially signed an agreement with Fairleigh Dickinson in 2004. The picture-identification card supports a prepaid account that enables cardholders to pay for purchases on campus and at 15 to 20 retailers off campus. Parents can log on to CardSmith's or the university's Web site to load funds into the card account using information from a check or payment card. The amount of funds loaded into the card accounts can range from $1,000 to $1,500. School officials distribute the CardSmith card to 15,000 students enrolled at Fairleigh Dickinson's Teaneck, N.J., and Madison, N.J., campuses, Summerall says.
