The Carrefour Group, which operates 228 retail supercenters in France, will issue through its financial-services arm contactless payment cards that carry MasterCard Worldwide's PayPass application. The "PASS" cards will support debit and credit transactions, the retailer and MasterCard said in a statement Tuesday. The cards, scheduled to go to consumers in mid-February, will be among the first in France to have PayPass, the statement says. The cards also will carry a loyalty application. MasterCard says at least 44 million cards issued globally have PayPass. Neither MasterCard nor Carrefour responded to CardLine Global requests for comment.
