A strategic joint venture between Global Payments and The Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corp. Ltd., the unit operates in Brunei, China, Hong Kong, India, Macau, Malaysia, the Maldives, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Taiwan. The unit, which provides card-acceptance products, services and support, is the largest card-processing company in the region, Global noted in a press release.

Hicks previously was Global’s top executive in Central Europe, serving as president of its Prague-based processing business there. Before that, he was a senior vice president at Global Payments Canada, handling marketing and development for the company’s Canadian products.

The Asia Pacific region is a “key” market for the company, Joseph C. Hyde, Global Payments president of international operations, said in the release, noting Hicks’ experience will help the company accomplish its goal of continually improving products and services provided to Global’s merchant customers in Asia.
