Consumers in India who have MasterCard-branded payment cards spent an average of US$552 (410 euros) online during the last quarter of 2008, down 11.7% from US$625 during the same period in 2007, according to survey findings from MasterCard Worldwide. The card company based its findings on surveys of approximately 500 consumers in India. Consumer use of cards online grew 11.5%, averaging 2.9 online purchases during the last three months of 2008 compared with 2.6 for the same period in 2007, the survey data show. About 75% of survey respondents said they planned to shop online during the early part of this year, up from 71% of respondents who said so last year. MasterCard did not respond to a CardLine Global request for comment.
