Indonesian Bank To Deploy Hypercom Terminals

Permata Bank, one of Indonesia's national banks, intends to deploy Hypercom Corp. Optimum T4200 payment terminals as part of the bank's nationwide rollout of multifunction devices at retail locations. The deal will establish what the bank calls a "mini-ATM" network, a spokesperson for the Indonesia-based financial institution tells CardLine Global. The terminals will enable the bank's customers to complete more than 100 types of transactions, including paying utility, insurance and credit card bills, and purchasing such services as airline tickets and mobile-phone prepaid vouchers. The first phase of the multicity rollout should begin in January and will consist of more than 500 cobranded terminals supported by Hypercom's Indonesia-based value-added reseller PT Multi Adiprakarsa Manunggal, also known as Kartuku. "With this initial rollout, the bank will bring an array of additional services, speed and security to its customers," Niki Luhur, Kartuku president, said in a statement. The bank plans to deploy the terminals at such merchant locations as mini-marts and traditional grocery stores. The bank has 276 branches and operates a network of nearly 550 ATMs in Indonesia. Though Hypercom already has a significant footprint in Indonesia, Permata Bank's switch to Hypercom from a competitor strengthens the terminal maker's presence in the country, according to a Hypercom spokesperson, who declined to name the competitor.
