The fare-collection system is the foundation of the regional contactless smart card branded as TAP. The increase in contract value is approximately $9 million, Cubic said in a news release. The two parties struck earlier TAP agreements in 2008.

Cubic Transportation Systems is a business segment of San Diego-based Cubic Corp.

The TAP smart card-based regional system for L.A. Metro and participating agencies is built on the Nextfare hardware and software platform for managing fare collection and operational data.
