Some consumers may find locating the nearest place to obtain cash easier with MasterCard Worldwide's new ATM Hunter, a free application for Apple Inc.'s iPhone or iPod touch handheld devices, a MasterCard spokesperson tells ATM&Debit News, a CardLine sister publication. ATM Hunter determines the iPhone or iPod touch owner's location and lists the addresses of the nearest ATMs. ATM Hunter's database includes the addresses of and provides directions to more than 1 million ATMs, more than twice the number deployed in the U.S. However, the application only operates in the U.S., the spokesperson says. MasterCard says it has received positive feedback about the application from other regions throughout the world. MasterCard developed the application for Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple. "Each year, more than 2 million consumers contact MasterCard via the Web, phone or SMS-text messaging to find ATM locations," MasterCard said in a statement. IPhone and iPod touch owners can customize ATM Hunter so it displays only their financial institution's machines, ATMs that are open 24 hours or ATM locations that are wheelchair-accessible.
