Merchant Warehouse Inc., a Boston-based independent sales organization, says its Genius Customer Engagement Platform accepts Apple Passbook, a function the company views as part of a nationwide shift toward mobile payments.

Genius, announced in June, aggregates and integrates all payment types, including mobile wallets, Merchant Warehouse said in a press release received Sept. 17.

The ability to accept Apple Passbook 'passes' at any merchant with a Genius Customer Engagement Device reinforces Genius' position as the only open payment platform capable of accepting every transaction type, the ISO said in the release.

Genius has limited availability nationwide with general availability coming in January, Merchant Warehouse said.

Apple's announcement of iOS 6, the latest version of its mobile operating system, and its Passbook function are part of a massive shift to mobile in business-to-consumer commerce, Merchant Warehouse said.

"Our goal is to design and engineer payment and program acceptance … that provide unlimited choice, unified security and open access," Dan Dufault, the company’s executive vice president of sales and marketing, said in the release.
