The GSM Association, a global trade group for more than 750 mobile-phone operators, has endorsed Visa Inc. as a provider of mobile funds transfers, reports CardLine Global sister publication American Banker. Visa already works on mobile tests with the group. The group this week also named as partners the Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC and Belgium-based telecommunications firm Belgacom International Carrier Services. Visa will work with the trade group to develop global standards for mobile funds transfers and to help financial institutions enter the mobile funds-transfer market. "This relationship will help us accelerate the delivery of services and get it right," says Pam Zuercher, Visa's head of mobile initiatives. "We think there's an enormous opportunity for synergies between two of the largest networks in the world: mobile and financial services."
