MoneyGram International has hired former DolEx Dollar Express Inc. head George Zelinski as its vice president for Central America, South America and the Caribbean regions, the company announced March 31.
Zelinski spent 10 years at DolEx, an Arlington, Texas-based funds-transfer company. Zelinski had been its chief executive, chief financial officer and vice president of sales, MoneyGram said in a press release. Zelinski has also spent 25 years as a banker at various companies in Mexico City.
Zelinski “brings decades of experience and a deep understanding of the money-transfer business,” Dan O’Malley, MoneyGram’s executive vice president of the Americas, said in the release.
“George will be an incredible asset to us as we continue to refine our focus, grow our send and receive connections, introduce new products and develop relationships with agents in Central and South America and the Caribbean,” O’Malley said.
At MoneyGram, which is based in Dallas, Zelinski will handle sales strategies for his regions.
MoneyGram also said it has promoted Robert Burford to regional director for Mexico. Burford previously was regional manager for Mexico.
Burford is “steeped in our business and the Mexico market,” O’Malley said. “As we turn up the heat to grow this very important region, it makes good business sense to expand Robert’s responsibilities and put him at the helm of this effort.”
