New Zealanders making student-loan and child-support payments with payment cards will not have to pay bank "convenience fees," the country's taxing authorities announced. The directive from the country's Inland Revenue Department says the agency will pay the fees, which can equate to as much as 2.49% of the transaction amount. The directive applies to MasterCard and Visa credit and debit cards, the agency says in a statement. "This change reflects the government's decision to make it easier and cheaper for ... student-loan borrowers and child support-paying parents to make online payments using debit or credit cards," Peter Dunne, the country's minister of revenue, says in a statement. Neither ministry officials nor card issuers in New Zealand were able to offer immediate comment to CardLine Global.
