Pakistani Bank Issues Country's First Prepaid Card

Pakistan-based United Bank Limited announced Tuesday it launched the country's first prepaid card. The Visa-branded prepaid card is available in three versions, according to a bank statement. "Frequent travelers" can load up to 200,000 rupees (US$2,500 or 1,958 euros) on a card designed for them. A card for women carries a maximum load of 50,000 rupees, and a card targeted at teenagers carries a maximum load of 20,000 rupees. Consumers can apply for and reload the cards online or at any United Bank Limited branch. The card issuance fee is 100 rupees, according to the bank. Consumers can withdraw funds from any of Pakistan's 3,000 ATMs linked through network providers 1Link Ltd. and M-Net.
