PayPal Adds App for BlackBerry in Its Pursuit of All Mobile Platforms

PayPal's mobile payments application can now be accessed by BlackBerry users in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia, with plans for more markets later on.

With this launch, the PayPal app works on all mobile platforms, including Android, iOS, Windows Phone and Amazon.com's Fire OS, Priya Rajendran, solution manager for consumer channels at PayPal, said in a Jan. 7 blog post.

PayPal has also aggressively placed its app on smartwatch platforms including Android Wear, Samsung Gear and Pebble.

"We've focused on putting the buying power back in your hands, and this is only possible if you can access us no matter what platform you're using," Rajendran said.

The BlackBerry app, which runs on the Q10, Z10, and the Classic BlackBerry models, allows consumers to send and request money, as well as check balances and see recent activity. Customers can also locate and redeem offers and pay for goods at stores that accept PayPal. Additionally, users can manage their digital wallet by adding loyalty cards into the app to manage their credit and debit cards. 

Many payment companies don't have a BlackBerry app, though years ago it was considered a more important platform. Starbucks and LevelUp offered BlackBerry support in the past, but no longer do.
