The ISO and merchant-acquiring industry's optimism is endemic. Few, however, have escaped some impact from the recent recession based on the results of the 2010 ISO&Agent Compensation Survey.

More than half of the 124 respondents-56%-said the recession "somewhat" affected their compensation, with 17% saying it "very much" did and 9% claiming it "drastically" altered their compensation.

Only 19% of respondents said the recession had no impact on their compensation.

In response to another question, 65% of respondents said their 2009 benefits remained the same as in 2008, down from 74% who said their 2008 benefits were the same as in 2007 in last year's survey.

In 2009, 20% of respondents said their benefits decreased, an increase from the 14% who said so in 2008.

Not surprisingly, when asked how employers could improve pay and benefits, the majority-47%-wanted better commissions, followed by 15% who wanted improved medical benefits and 11% who wanted a better retirement package.
