Revel Systems, Adyen to Offer EMV Mobile Payments in Europe

Revel Systems has integrated its iPad-based point of sale system with the Adyen Shuttle mobile card reader to provide more European merchants with an option for reading EMV-chip cards.

Adyen Shuttle connects to smartphones and tablets wirelessly through a Bluetooth connection. The device is available in 17 countries within the European Union.

Adyen began offering its mobile EMV card reader in London, Berlin and Amsterdam in December 2012, and was eyeing the U.S. as merchants prepare for the October 2015 EMV migration deadline set by the card networks.

"As Revel Systems continues to conduct business abroad, it's become more important for is to expand on being the first iPad POS with EMV processing as we announced earlier this year," says Chris Ciabarra, chief technology officer at Revel Systems, in an Oct. 22 press release.

Recently Revel Systems introduced several new features to its point of sale system, including accepting PayPal payments and using photo verification for card swipes. The system is also designed to accept payments even during a loss of internet connectivity, as happened during the opening football game at Alabama State University's stadium in August.
