Russia's Beeline to Offer Qiwi Wallet

Qiwi, a Russian payment services company is working with Beeline Russia to allow its customers access to Qiwi's digital wallet service.

Beeline is a subsidiary of OSJC VimpelCom, a Dutch company that operates primarily in Italy and Central Asia. Beeline customers who already use Qiwi's wallet will see their interface change to Beeline's black-and-yellow style rather than have to run a separate app.

"Cooperation with Qiwi will provide all Beeline's customers with a broad range of new opportunities as Visa Qiwi Wallet is accepted by most of the popular merchants," said OJSC VimpelCom executive vice-president for marketing Anastasia Orkina in a June 3 press release. "We expect that this service is going to mark a new era of mobile financial services and that its launch will increase the number of those who use modern payment technologies."

Qiwi has been steadily entering deals in recent months, including a partnership with the Russian Post and an acquisition of Otkrite Financial Group's Rapida payment processing system.
