Consumers in the Netherlands, Germany and Spain can now use the mobile service to make payments, Seamless announced in press releases issued March 13 through March 20. The technology was already in use across five other countries on the continent.

SEQR uses a mobile app to make payments by scanning QR codes or tapping Near Filed Communication-based terminals. Customers then enter a PIN code within the app to complete the transaction.

The system works both online and in stores and is also connected to SEQR Shop Spot. This program enables users to make a mobile purchase wherever they see a QR code, including through advertisements, on product packaging or in commercials.

SEQR Shop removes the need for retailers to incorporate SEQR physically, the company said. Based in Stockholm, Seamless operates in 26 countries and handles more than 3.1 billion transactions every year.
