The Serbian arm of Italy-based Banca Intesa S.p.A will use "Ezio Classic" at-home payment card readers from Gemalto NV to better secure online shopping transactions for customers, a spokesperson for the smart card vendor tells CardLine Global. Consumers attach the readers to their personal computers and insert their EMV chip cards into them when making purchases online. Consumers enter their PINs into their computer keyboards, after which the reader generates a one-time passcode that consumers also type in to secure the purchases. This is the first such reader order from a Serbian financial institution, the spokesperson says, declining to say how many readers the bank ordered. Globally, Gemalto has shipped at least 10 million Ezio devices, the spokesperson says.
