SIMalliance is opening its software to third-party developers in its effort to discourage hackers’ attacks against wireless devices.

The London-based trade association is trying to tap into free resources provided by outsiders to broaden the scope of its Secure Element software. The product provides authentication for Near Field Communication payments and identity services.

The developer tool is called Open Mobile API, or application program interface.

“Knowing their data is safe will increase consumer confidence and stimulate growing demand for new services, and that is good news for the user, the mobile operator and the hundreds of brands that now recognize the opportunities of engaging with their consumers on the mobile,” Frederic Vasnier, SIMalliance chairman, said in an April 6 press release.

SIMalliance said its membership is responsible for delivering widely distributed mobile application delivery platforms.
