The Shop2Give app allows users to make secure purchases at retail locations, with 2% of every purchase donated to a nonprofit, Sionic Mobile stated in a release. Users can also donate to the nonprofit directly.

Nonprofits will have access to the funds generated through the app within two days. Sionic charges a 1% flat processing fee per transaction.

The app is supported by more than 50,000 retail locations, including major retailers Barnes & Noble, JCPenney and Banana Republic. Restaurant chains such as Papa Johns and Burger King will also participate.

Sionic Mobile made the app available to some early adopters, including medical research nonprofit Enduring Hearts, last year. Currently, the app is available only on Apple devices. The company said a version for Android-based devices is in the works.
