Sony's PlayStation 4 Now Accepts PayPal

Owners of Sony's PlayStation 4 video game console, which launched in November, can now use PayPal to purchase games and other media from the console's built-in PlayStation Store.

The addition, one of many in Sony's April 30 software update, is the latest extension of PayPal in the Sony ecosystem. The electronics giant already supported PayPal for purchases made on the Web and on the older PlayStation 3 console.

Sony also recently ended a promotion that gave a $10 credit to customers who used PayPal to add $50 to a PlayStation Store account. The promotion ran from Dec. 19 to Dec. 23.

Sony indicated that it plans to support more alternative payment methods on the PlayStation 4, though PayPal was the only one it named in the notes accompanying the software update. On the PlayStation 3, Sony supports mobile billing for AT&T and T-Mobile subscribers in the U.S. and for all major carriers' subscribers in the U.K.
