EntroPay, a "virtual" prepaid card scheme that United Kingdom-based Ixaris Systems Ltd. operates, has begun issuing its first plastic card that consumers can use at ATMs and at the point of sale. The MasterCard-branded card represents EntroPay's first move into prepaid plastic, an EntroPay spokesperson tells CardLine Global. "We are issuing a phenomenal number of virtual Visa cards each month and see their use growing rapidly month on month," the spokesperson says, declining to reveal details. "The plastic card is complimentary to the virtual cards we offer, and we expect plastic to be used alongside virtual, not as a substitute." The bad economy is sparking an increase in demand for prepaid cards, the spokesperson adds. The company offers no virtual prepaid cards that carry the MasterCard brand.
