UnionPay Cards Now Accepted In Taiwan, Processor Says

Chinese consumers who visit Taiwan can use China UnionPay-branded cards for purchases starting Friday, according to Taipei-based processor National Credit Card Center. The announcement follows moves by regulators in Taiwan to allow the use of UnionPay cards in the country. Previously, visitors from China were permitted to bring up to 20,000 yuan (US$2,900 or 2,000 euros) in cash  per visit. Tourists from China reportedly will be able to use their UnionPay cards at some 360 stores in Taiwan. China UnionPay, a state-controlled payment card network, is trying to establish itself as an international card brand.
