Valve Corp. has agreed to work with UOL BoaCompra to accept payment on its online gaming platform, Steam, in Colombia and Peru.
Steam is a popular digital storefront for PC, Mac and Linux games, adding built-in social features and the ability to redownload purchased games from multiple computers. About 90% of online gamers in Colombia and Peru do not have access to international credit cards for making online purchases, according to the companies. UOL BoaCompra's payment options will allow gamers to use local currencies to make payments.
Steam users in Brazil have been able to pay with UOA BoaCompra's payment option since 2012, and Valve and UOA BoaCompra expanded their partnership last year to Mexico and Turkey.
"BoaCompra was the natural choice for opening up local currencies and payments in Colombia and Peru," Mark Richardson, Valve's chief financial officer, said in a news release.
