Payment-terminal maker VeriFone Systems Inc. this afternoon reported net income of $32 million for the fiscal first quarter ended Jan. 31, up 202% from $10.6 million during the same period last year. Revenue was up 27%, to $283.8 million from $223.4 million.
“Every region grew by a double digit percentage, and our transformational service initiatives made significant advances in the quarter. We are excited about our prospects for 2011 and beyond,” Douglas G. Bergeron, CEO of the San Jose, Calif.-based company noted in a press release announcing earnings. “We find ourselves at the epicenter of the mobile-payments revolution and the key enabler of the integration of new payment methods with the world’s existing payment infrastructure.”
