Visa Inc. has launched a micropayment service in Australia that supports consumer payments for downloadable content such as movies, music and games.
Called payclick, the service enables anyone in Australia with a Visa or MasterCard account or a bank account to open a payclick account. When shopping online at a participating merchant, users would pick payclick as their form of payment, thus avoiding the need to key in personal details or financial information.
“Users need to complete a once-off registration at the (payclick.com) site or at the time of their first payclick purchase to create a payclick account,” a Visa spokesperson tells PaymentsSource.
Once users set up their accounts, they click the payclick acceptance button at checkout on the retailer site and enter their password to authorize purchases, the spokesperson says. “Users will also get an automatic top-up function to transfer funds to their payclick account on a regular basis," the spokesperson adds. “They can also access an entire history of their purchases made through their payclick account."
Participating merchants include Big Pond Games, Big Pond Music, Flexischools, Habbo, iTunes and Charity Kids Help Line, according to Visa.
Payclick also supports a “Sponsored Account” feature, in which parents or guardians may set up an account on behalf of a teenager and facilitate funds transfers into their payclick accounts.
Teenagers then may buy at payclick sellers using their own accounts and passwords, while parents will have access to the transaction histories to monitor purchases.
