Visa Inc. reportedly has launched an advertising campaign in the Asia-Pacific region designed to boost spending among travelers and other consumers. The campaign, launched in Hong Kong and South Korea, features Matt Harding, an Internet celebrity known as "Dancing Matt," according to the Asia Travel Trips newspaper. Visa did not respond to requests for comment from CardLine Global. The campaign reportedly will spread to China, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore and Vietnam. "A key purpose of this campaign is to boost card spending among travelers," Parita Chitakasem, research manager with United Kingdom-based Euromonitor International, tells CardLine Global. "Visa has done well to focus on these target markets because these are markets where there is a convincing trend for [increased] card [use]." The campaign shows that Visa "has also strategically tapped into a key consumer group, the online community, and it shows how important the online community is to the travel industry," she adds.
