Visa Names JPM's Ryan McInerney President, Gives Other Execs New Roles

Visa has hired Ryan McInerney to be its president. McInerney, previously the chief executive of JPMorgan Chase's consumer bank, fills a position left vacant since John Partridge retired in March.

Visa also appointed Elizabeth Buse and Bill Sheedy to new roles.

McInerney reports to Visa CEO Charlie Scharf, also a former JPMorgan Chase executive. Scharf used to head JPMorgan's retail bank, though he moved from that role to the company's internal private-equity group the year before he left JPMorgan Chase to head Visa.

"I have worked closely with Ryan for many years and know him to have extensive payments knowledge, be a tremendous leader and a great executive capable of motivating and managing large groups of people.  I am confident he will be a great fit and asset to the organization," Scharf said in a May 23 press release.  "As Visa seeks to find new ways to partner with and add value to our clients, I believe Ryan's client focus and deep understanding of the industry will be invaluable."

"I am thrilled to join an incredible company at such an exciting time," McInerney said in the release. "As the global leader in payments, Visa has helped its clients tremendously by driving the global migration to electronic payments. I look forward to working with the Visa team to prepare for the many opportunities ahead and finding new ways to help our partners grow their businesses."

Elizabeth Buse will lead Visa's new Global Solutions organization. She previously led Visa's business in the Asia Pacific, Central Europe, Middle East and Africa region.

In her new role, Buse will be responsible for CyberSource, Merchant Sales, and building out Merchant Solutions. She will manage new products and services for mobile, information products and processing.

"I am thrilled to have someone of Elizabeth's caliber leading this important effort," Scharf says in the release.  "Elizabeth has proven management capabilities, experience leading a major part of our business, passion for developing transformative products and deep knowledge of and credibility in our industry."

Bill Sheedy will lead corporate strategy for mergers and acquisitions, government relations and other initiatives. He previously managed Visa's business across North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean.

"Over the last five years Visa has grown impressively, thanks in significant part to Bill's leadership of the Americas," Scharf says. "We are fortunate to have someone with Bill's experience to help guide our organization into the future."

McInerney is the latest of several prominent departures at JPMorgan Chase. Besides McInerney and Scharf, JPMorgan Chase also lost co-chief operating officer Frank Bisignano, who left the company to become CEO of the payments processor First Data Corp. last month.
