Visa's CyberSource Supports Fraud Protection for China's Alipay

The Chinese online payment provider Alipay has added a number of security products from CyberSouce, a Visa-owned e-commerce management provider.

Alipay is using CyberSource's Decision Manager and Managed Risk Services products. Decision Manager screens inbound orders against data and correlations from more than 60 billion transactions Visa and CyberSource processes each year. The transaction data is bolstered by 260 validation and correlation tests, which allow the technology to spot suspicious activity. CyberSource also recently entered a partnership in Laos.

Managed Risk Services combines Decision Manager with fraud consulting services, monitoring and configuration of fraud risk practices to a businesses’ requirements and market conditions.

Alipay supports more than 800 million registered users and processes over 105.8 million transactions daily, totaling a monetary value of more than $3 billion. On November 11, the company processed 188 million transactions. Alipay is the largest online payment service in China, facilitating about half of online payments in the country, it says.

"The implementation of CyberSource Decision Manager and Managed Risk Services allows us to better understand best practices in global risk management and build an efficient system for our extensive user base," says Tu Jianwei, a senior director at Alipay, in a Nov. 19 press release.
