Wirecard, a German digital payments company, is introducing a software development kit to provide payment capabilities via wearable devices.

The kit will enable developers to integrate payment functions into smartwatches and other wearables, the Ascheim-based company stated in a Feb. 10 press release. Wirecard expects to make the wearable payments developer kit available for download by the end of February.

Wirecard's tools rely on Host Card Emulation (HCE) technology, which allows transactions to be performed using security credentials stored in the cloud or a host processor rather than on the device itself. One-off "tokens," which replace sensitive account information with a secure proxy to guard against fraud, will be used in the contactless payment.

The company previously revealed its Wirecard Smart Band, a wearable device with contactless payment functions, in January.
