Against Corporate Greed

Shane McGovern, 35, of Keansburg, N.J., has been out of work for the past two and a half years. McGovern said he's been camping out on Liberty Street and Broadway since last Thursday.

"When I was in my 20s, in the 90s, I was able to get work, to get two jobs," said the unemployed security guard, who has an 11-year-old son.

Standing United

Kathy O'Connel, 50, of New York, said she's upset at a system that seems to keep the wealthiest people in power.

"I feel like the greed is beyond control. How much money do they have to have?"

Ill WTC Volunteer

Walter Hillegass, 35, of Jackson Heights, Queens, said he developed an auto-immune disease two years ago from working close to the World Trade Center after its collapse in 2001. The out-of-work plumber said he is protesting a system that hasn't provided him with proper health care.

"I'm not making any money at all. I only have my unemployment, and what I sell on eBay," said Hillegass. "But I would never pick on anyone who is successful. I can't blame the bankers."

A protestor invites the top "1%" to come and have a conversation with him about unemployment and homelessness, among other issues. Many in the park seemed to be interested in starting such a conversation with the people they view as "in power."
