NORWELL, Mass. - A credit unions' representative has emerged as a major player in the effort to take advantage of a new state law facilitating the conversion of credit unions to banks. DUBLIN, Ireland - A dozen credit unions in this country have lost an estimated (U.S.) $34.4 million they had invested in a German bank that came close to collapsing as the result of its own investments in subprime mortgages in America. Ireland's Financial Regulator has launched an audit as a result. Credit unions in Ireland have more than $10 billion in surplus funds.
