MADISON, Wis. - Five delegates from the Iowa Credit Union League spent a week in Panama to support the educational and lobbying initiatives of Panama's credit union league (COFEP) to establish credit union regulation. The visit grew out of the leagues' international partnership through World Council of Credit Unions.

ONTARIO, Calif. - CO-OP Financial Services has created the Compromised Card Activity report to enable card issuing clients to review activity for at risk card numbers identified through Visa CAMS or MasterCard Alerts. The Wichita Eagle did a story about Mid American Credit Union, Catholic Family Federal Credit Union and the Wichita branch of America's Christian Credit Union sharing branches. Marilyn Wells, Catholic Family Federal's president, said it's the only branch expansion option for her 4,000-member, $21.9-million institution. Mid American also has arrangements in place with Central Star Credit Union and First Choice Credit Union to do shared branching. "Once we can get this rolling a bit... this thing is going to start snowballing," added Wells.

MADISON, Wis. - The number of remittances paid out in 2006 by World Council of Credit Union, Inc.'s (WOCCU) International Remittance Network (IRnet) increased by 30.8% over the previous year, totaling more than $480 million-up from about $384 million in 2005.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - Card issuer Dynamic Card Solutions said that Maryland-based Tower FCU has chosen its CardWizard to instantly issue debit cards to its more than 115,000 members. Following a pilot program, Tower placed CardWizard in all of its branches and trained 75 team members on the system. Since introducing the system last year, the credit union has instantly issued more than 9,500 debit cards.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Golden 1 Credit Union paid more than $4 million in annual rebates to its Visa cardholders. The 1% cash rebates were paid for qualified purchases made with a Golden 1 Visa card during 2006.
