Ray B. Burton Jr.

Ray B. Burton Jr., a founding principal of the New York investment management firm of Trevor Stewart Burton & Jacobsen Inc., died Tuesday at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London, Conn., from complications arising from liver disease. He was 52.

Mr. Burton, a resident of Niantic, Conn., and Manhattan, resigned from his position as executive vice president and director of Trevor Stewart in March for health reasons.

He began his career in bonds in 1966, when he joined Equitable Secrities Corp. in Nashville. He then moved on to manage the firm's institutional sales office in Greensboro, N.C., before heading to New York to work at Equitable Securities, Morton & Co., a division of American Express. Prior to founding Trevor Stewart in 1974, Mr. Burton spent two years in fixed-income sales at Wood, Struthers and Winthrop Inc.

Mr. Burton, born in Knoxville, Tenn., in 1939, was educated at Woodberry Forest School, Vanderbilt University, and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy in the early 1960s.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; two sons, Ray Jr. and David; his mother, Catherine R. Burton of Knoxville; and a sister, Betsy, of Chicago.

Memorial services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the chapel of St. Bartholomew's Church in Manhattan and on Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Ann's Episcopal Church in Old Lyme, Conn.
