Thomas Timlen, Former No. 2 Officer at N.Y. Fed, Dies at 62
Thomas M. Timlen, who had chief day-to-day management responsibilities at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York from 1976 until 1988, died on Wednesday.
Mr. Timlen, who was 62 years old, suffered a heart attack, the New York Fed said.
He served in the New York bank's No. 2 post, first vice president and chief administrative officer, until taking early retirement three years ago. He remained a consultant to the bank, working on the operations center that is under construction in East Rutherford, N.J.
Mr. Timlen joined the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in 1955 as a law clerk. He was executive vice president before being named first vice president in 1976.
From August 1979 to March 1980, he was acting chief executive officer between the departure of Paul Volcker and the appointment of Anthony Solomon.
A memorial fund was set up in Mr. Timlen's name at St. Peter's College, Jersey City, where he was an undergraduate. He also had a law degree from Harvard.
