Southside names Teschner CEO and president.

Thomas M. Teschner was elected president, chief executive officer, and a director of Southside Bancshares Corp. and its principal subsidiary, South Side National Bank in St. Louis.

Howard F. Etling, the retired publisher of a local newspaper, was named chairman of the board of both institutions.

Mr. Teschner had been interim president and CEO of the bank and holding company since June, when he succeeded J. Richard Furrer.

Previously, Mr. Teschner was senior vice president and senior loan officer of the bank and holding company.

Mr. Etling, a member of both boards, succeeds Mr. Furrer as chairman of each. Mr. Furrer remains a member of the boards.

Mr. Teschner started in banking at St. John's Bank and Trust. Later he became an officer of Landmark Bank of St. Charles County, and a national bank examiner for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
